There has to be a better way
Chat - synchronous communication by text - feels pretty lousy for collaboration.
Social aspects of real time back and forth are undeniable. Spontaneous expression and the more than occasional meme share is valuable - and more importantly - fun.
Feeling expected to be available all the time and respond immediately is exhausting, though. Yet most of us don't enjoy missing out because we're in the wrong channel, or at the wrong time.
The whole thing encourages unhealthy habits and unsustainable practices. And honestly though, forcing everyone to "be on IRC at work" isn't really progress either now, is it?
But also, few find joy sifting through stale documentation or trawling ancient email threads to learn. And no one, ever, cheers that Reply All from Greg at the end.
We believe a better way can be uncovered.
Something between a forum and a chat, perhaps. Quick, dynamic and fun. Yet contextual, calm and flowing at the end.
Like a mullet.
